Where are the Files Downloaded in Chrome and How to Change the Path

Chrome is a powerful browser allowing you to download all kinds of files. Generally you can directly open them after finish downloading. But for a previously downloaded file, do you know where to find it? Furthermore, if you are not satisfied with the default download path, can you specify another location to store these files?

How to Find and Manage Downloaded Files in Chrome

After downloading a file in Chrome, you can right click the finished task to expand the menu.

Here you can either click Open directly or choose Show in folder to go to the download path.

If you choose Always open files of this type, this kind of file will be auto opened after finishing downloading from then on.

Chrome also allows you to checked previously downloaded files. Just tap the icon of 3 dots on the top-right corner of Chrome, and choose Downloads in the menu.

Here you can find and manage all the files downloaded in Chrome. You can click a file name to open it, click Show in folder to enter the download folder, or hit the × button to remove it from the download list.

But removing a file here only mean deleting the download history. To actually delete a downloaded file, you still have to go to the download path and delete it by normal means.

How to Change the Default Download Path of Chrome

You probably don’t want to download files in the default path, and it’s also troublesome to move them to other folders. In this case, you can directly change the download path of Chrome.

Click the 3 dots button on the top-right corner of Chrome and choose Settings in the menu.

Scroll down to find Advanced. Hit it to enable further settings. Then you can easily find Downloads section.

If you don’t want to download all the files in the same location, it’s better to toggle on Ask where to save each file before downloading, therefore you can specify different path for each file you want to download.

If you don’t want to bother specifying location for each file, then just hit Change button to set a default path.

Specify a folder in the popping out window, then hit Select Folder to confrim it.

Then next time you download a file, it will be automatically saved in the folder you specified.
